Under the general direction of and upon physician referral; to assess the receptive/expressive communication and swallowing needs of impaired patients, develop treatment goals, plan and implement appropriate treatment plans utilizing a variety of speech/language therapy treatment procedures. Â
The Speech Therapist must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served in his/her department. Â The individual must acquire and/or demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Â In addition, have an understanding of the state laws and regulations regarding school-based therapy, documentation, and billing.Therapist is responsible for development of studentsâ€™ IEP goals, progress reports, and contribution to annual review meetings with staff and parents/caregivers.Â He/she must be able to provide care with consideration of developmental status.
Based upon the treatment diagnosis of the patient, OBJECTIVELY AND QUANTIFIABLY assesses a baseline level of communication and swallowing function for each patient referred.Â Such evaluations should include baseline assessment of pertinent medical and onset history, articulation, voice, fluency, language, swallowing and cognition.Â This baseline information should be sufficient to adequately form the basis of treatment outcome goals.
Based upon the initial assessment of the patient, identify communication/swallowing needs and establish appropriate treatment outcome goals.Â Goals will be established as an expected outcome of the patient's treatment plan, will be expressed in measurable terms, and will be realistic and appropriate to the patient's condition.
Based upon the treatment outcome goals established for the patient, plan and implement treatment programs designed to achieve or significantly progress toward achievement of outcome goals.Â Treatment programs will be dynamic relative to the clinical response of the patient and will achieve a level of consistency and continuity that will enhance the patient's clinical response.
Provides assessments and/or screens in response to referrals made to determine area(s) of need for the student within the rural school contract setting
