Hearing/Speech Technician, Pediatrics
In your pivotal, rewarding role as Hearing/Speech Technician, you will be organizing and creating materials for use in therapy sessions, as well as cleaning/sanitizing rooms and surfaces, stocking rooms with necessary items, and sanitizing toys. You will be setting up and breaking down rooms for group use and working in speech and language groups under the Speech Language Pathologist and/or Occupational Therapist to collect data, support art, snack, and other group activities. Additionally, you will address toileting/diaper changes and hand washing for the children in the groups.
The Pediatric Speech Language Division of the Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center is a dynamic out-patient pediatric speech and language clinic consisting of more than 35 clinical staff members encompassing Speech Pathologists, Clinic Technicians, and Occupational Therapists. Our primary site for service is housed within the state-of-the-art Vanderbilt Bill Wilkerson Center located in the heart of the Vanderbilt Medical Center Campus. We have a number of satellite locations. We have established numerous specialty groups of professionals including but not limited to areas such as Preschool Speech-Language, School-Age Speech-Language and Literacy, AAC, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Provides support to speech language pathologists and audiologists through collection of data, assisting with researching topics, transportation of patients or other patient care support services.
Assists in safe provision of functional activities (leading hand washing, toileting/diaper changing, snack activities for pediatrics).
Provides support to speech language pathologists and teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing for implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities.
Maintains supplies at acceptable levels.
Prepares treatment areas (set up group therapy rooms based on number of patients served and focus of therapy, set up individual therapy/assessment rooms based upon age and/or diagnosis, clean up/reorganize treatment rooms at the conclusion of service).
Provides basic screening services (Prepare infant or child for hearing screening, performs hearing screening and communicates results to family).

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE - (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS):- Has limited experience, training, direct exposure, or past experience conducting maintenance activities in area of assignments.
REHAB PTA/COTA PATIENT DOCUMENTATION (NOVICE):- Demonstrates sufficient proficiency in communicating functional impact of assessment findings, treatment interventions, treatment planning diagnosis, and disease process. Considers the communication needs/level of understanding of audience and may share appropriate information/literature.
AUDIOLOGY PATIENT EDUCATION (NOVICE):- Communicates functional impact of assessment findings, treatment interventions, diagnosis, and disease process. Adapts communication to the level of understanding of the patient. Determines comprehension and need for repetition and/or revision of methods.
