The VA St. Louis Health Care System is recruiting for a full time Section Chief of the PM&R; (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) located at Jefferson Barracks Division. The Section Chief of PM&R directly supervises PMR Service line manager, PM&R physiatrists, and Pain physicians under ECRS. The Section Chief of PM&R reports to Associate Chief of Staff for Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Additional Requirement: Preferred Experience: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in Medicine or Osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which it was completed. Proficiency in spoken and written English. ["JOB DUTIES: The VA St Louis Healthcare System is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible physician in PM&R; to serve as the Section Chief of the PM&R; (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) aligned under Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service. The successful candidate should have strong leadership skills, significant management experience, academic qualifications, and the ability to promote staff development and excellence. The Section Chief of PM&R; is responsible for the following clinical services: TBI/Polytrauma, EMG Laboratory, Pain Management Center, Physical Medicine Clinics, Amputee Clinics, Occupational Therapy Section, Physical Therapy Section, Recreation Therapy, Speech Language Pathologists and Low vision Rehabilitation as well as Inpatient Rehabilitation unit in CLC( Community Living Center). The Section Chief of PM&R directly supervises PMR Service line manager, PM&R physiatrists, and Pain physicians under ECRS. The Section Chief of PM&R reports to Associate Chief of Staff for Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service. The selectee is responsible for program oversight, supervision of staff, strategic planning, organizational execution and effectively coordinating the policies and activities related to the PM&R/Pain Section under ECRS at VA St Louis HCS... Additional duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Serves as advisor to the ACOS of ECRS on matters relating to PM&R and Pain Management. Reviews and analyzes rehabilitation work methods and operational procedures and recommend changes based on findings. Assists in determining the need for improvements and new initiatives in clinical care and research. Performs a wide range of medical duties covering rehabilitation medicine; examines and assesses patients, develops and manages a comprehensive plan of care& rehabilitation program in inpatient and outpatient settings. Performs EMG/NCS, peripheral joint injections, Polytrauma evaluations and Amputation clinic assessments Weekend call coverage shared with other ECRS physicians Plans work, set priorities, and prepares schedules for the completion of work by subordinates. Evaluates performance, provides advice, counsel, or instruction to individual employees concerning work and administrative matters. Interacts effective and cooperatively with individuals both inside and outside of the organization. The Chief of PM&R; interfaces with PM&R services within VISN 15 and builds relationships with the PM&R services in other VISN 15 facilities to address timely access and optimal productivity in the disciplines under PM&R. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Pay Schedule: The salary range listed in this announcement is a Base-Line Salary ($200,000-$280,000) range estimate for a full-time work schedule. Starting salary will be set based on locality (which may include a special pay rate depending upon location), as well as FT, PT or Intermittent employment.
