The Department of Biostatistics at VUMC was founded in 2003, tasked with the mission of bringing biostatistical expertise to the Vanderbilt community. With the unflagging support of the School of Medicine, and the diligence and creativity of our faculty and staff, we daily fulfill our mission: engaging in cutting-edge statistical methodology research, providing collaborative support and educational resources for biomedical and basic science researchers across the university, and training a new generation of Biostatisticians. Assists the research team in the design of research studies, specification of hypotheses and basic study design, and development of operations and procedures for data management.
Performs data management tasks including dataset construction, validation, and manipulation using R, SAS, Python/Perl, C and other software. Plans and designs databases for analysis.
Safeguard Protected Health Information (PHI). Maintain analysis and data management logs to ensure reproducibility of research
Implement analysis plan using a variety of statistical methods and technical skills to analyze and interpret data.
Participates in more complex statistical methods to analyze and interpret data.
In the context of the broader program of research, completes tasks according to set milestones.
Meets and presents analyses to collaborators as needed. Communicates logistical considerations for successful task processing.
Contributes to the preparation of written reports and oral presentations. Collaborates in the publication of research projects.
Engage in continual learning and develop content area knowledge in their work areas

DATA MANAGEMENT (NOVICE):Interpreting, analyzing and organizing reports and metrics.
HEALTHCARE DATA ANALYSIS (NOVICE):Navigates within established technology environments to locate, validate, extract, and format data for analysis. Able to modify and run queries and standard reports from data tools and provide to users. Can identify data values and data sources. Familiar with data modeling and able to interview business customers to elicit data requirements. Understands the relationships between data items.
STATISTICAL PROGRAMMING (NOVICE):Demonstrates proficiency in statistical programming algorithms and experienced in at least one programming language. Adheres to good reproducibility research methods for good practice.
DATA PROCUREMENT (NOVICE):Seeking, collecting, transforming, and ensuring quality of data.
COMMUNICATION (NOVICE):- Clearly, effectively and respectfully communicates to employees or customers.
PRESENTATION SKILLS (NOVICE):- The ability to prepare effective presentations in content and function, able to speak competently to the level of the audience.
