Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (or equivalent experience) and 1 year relevant experience

Your Role:
Performs ultrasound procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures to ensure the best possible patient care services are delivered.
As a VCH Pediatric Sonographer PRN you will facilitate quality patient care by performing ultrasound exams and related functions as requested.
- Performs routine ultrasound examinations as requested by physician to facilitate diagnosis in accordance with department procedure manual and initial patient assessment to include the following:
- Room preparation to include supplies, equipment set-up, immobilization devices; isolation procedure requirements; and sterile technique if warranted.
- Transports patients to and from the department to facilitate timely completion of patient exams as needed, in accordance with established department procedure.
- Patient/Parent education to allay apprehension and elicit cooperation during the exam. Obtains clinical history of patient's condition.
- Calculates and selects proper technical factors and probes based on patients age, physical condition and suspected pathology.
- Processing sonographic images and evaluating them for technical quality.
- Preparing films for interpretation by the Radiologist, recording pertinent patient data and pulling previous exams. Maintaining department log of exams performed for teaching file purposes.
- Educates the patient and family regarding the examination process.
- Provides caring responses to family questions.
- Excels in service excellence from the patient and family's perspective.
- Transports patients to and from the department to facilitate timely completion of patient exams as needed, in accordance with established department procedure.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews radiology exam requests and patient identification to ensure safe, appropriate and cost effective imaging.
- Applies broad range of skills to ensure exam is completed timely and meets quality and compliance standards.
- Provides appropriate Diagnostic Sonographer screening process to patients, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.
- Assists in the orientation and training of new staff.

Position Qualifications:
Required:
- Ultrasound Sonographer who have graduated from an approved discipline specific program and at least one year of Ultrasound Sonographer experience may be eligible for the sign-on bonus for Monroe Carell Jr's Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
- Graduate of an approved discipline specific program (or equivalent experience) and 1 year relevant experience
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Required (A.R.D.M.S)
** Certification in Abdomen, Neuro and Vascular is preferred**
Position Shift:
PRN (Work on as needed basis) Must have flexibility to work days and nights
