The Health Technician provides assistance to the Audiologist(s) to meet the clinical needs of the patient population served in the Audiology Clinic at VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System. The technician is required to deal directly with Veteran patients in a variety of ways and settings. The Health Technician provides support in three functional areas: Direct patient care, hearing aid examination and repair, and clinic operations tasks. The duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Receive and direct patients and answer routine inquiries. Determine nature of inquiry and independently respond to administrative questions. Assist patients, visitors, and others requesting information, guidelines, or referral for special assistance. Assist audiologists in patient care, including otoscopy and cerumen management. Work collaboratively with audiologists using the Clinical Access Station for real time assistance in hearing testing and hearing aid fitting. Communicate with audiologists through electronic platforms. Check malfunctioning hearing aids to determine if they can be repaired at the facility or if must be sent to the Denver Logistics Center for repair. Complete routine hearing aid repair. Document patient care accurately and timely, including Return to Clinic Orders and clinic notes. Perform administrative tasks such as filing and managing inventory. Routinely check orders to ensure that all components are present and in working order. Collect and organize statistical data for regular and one-time reports. Perform patient care procedures and provide follow up hearing aid education for patients recently fit with hearing aids. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
