The Department of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine has a long tradition of innovation. JOB SUMMARY: Under moderate supervision, set up, conduct experiments, and continue research projects following protocols including the appropriate recording of data and reporting of standard or variant results. Assist in other laboratory and research functions. The research assistant will be trained to use various human factors techniques such as medical event reporting & detection, and survey administration to patients, clinicians and caregivers to study the quality and safety related to care delivery processes in clinics and units such as the ICU and Operating Rooms. Will be expected to use computers and audiovisual equipment to collect, maintain, and process clinical research data in order to assist in patient safety research. Will be expected to assist in the maintenance of research equipment, to recruit potential subjects, and perform general laboratory procedures. Under close supervision, will perform data entry and preliminary processing. Will use computer programs for data acquisition and entry, spreadsheet functions, word-processing, and graphing. Assist in general laboratory operation and inventory. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
